Coronavirus: Treatments & Safety Guidelines

As we begin to move out of lockdown, we hope you are all well and able to enjoy more time outdoors with family and friends.

As we continue to monitor Government guidelines and prepare to welcome clients safely back to The Massage House, we wanted to update you on the necessary changes we are doing to ensure our treatments are safe, welcoming and enjoyable.

Our biggest priority at The Massage House is the wellbeing of our clients, which is why we have undergone the following extras:

1. Extra Safety & Hygiene Precautions: We are following the detailed practice guidelines set out by the Government, NHS as well as our professional association, The Federation of Holistic Therapists.

2.  Extra Training: During Lockdown, we have completed a certified infection control course and updated the Health & Safety Risk Assessments for the practice. We have purchased PPE equipment and will be using it during treatments.

3. Extra Hygiene & Deep Cleaning: The treatment room has been rearranged to ensure deep cleaning is detailed and efficient after every appointment. Clients will also be asked to bring their own towels for appointments (and £5 will be discounted from the treatment for the inconvenience).

4.  Extra Attention: Close monitoring of our therapist’s health and the health of our clients will be required on a daily basis, and every client will be asked to have their temperature taken on arrival. Should the temperature be raised, appointments will be postponed without charge.

5. Extra Honesty: We expect clients to defer their treatment if they are feeling unwell or have any Covid-19 symptoms. A Pre-Treatment Consent Form will be emailed prior to your treatment and we will need it approved and signed before going ahead. Should you have had Covid-19, we will require a letter of consent from your GP to undertake the treatment.

Initially we will be holding appointments on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only for pre-existing clients only.

If you would like more information or need further assurances on the extra elements we are putting in place to keep us all safe and well, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you and really do hope that we can welcome you back to The Massage House soon.

Uplifting & Energising: Our invigorating and cheerful blend of essential oils are just what we need this month

With so many of us looking for mental, emotional and physical support during these uncertain times of Coronavirus, our April blend of essential oils is designed to immediately stimulate and uplift our spirits in a positive way – something we could all do with during this time of worry and isolation.

With a fresh and light fragrance, this sharp and woody blend provides not only an invigorating aroma, but the combination of Rosemary, Eucalyptus and Lemon is also designed to provide a much-needed boost to our respiratory and digestive systems. Our stimulating April blend includes:

Rosemary: This very powerful herb oil is immediately stimulating and uplifting thanks to its minty, woody fragrance, whilst also providing regenerative qualities. With a history that goes back to the Egyptians, who used the herb in food, medicine and magic (burning sprigs were used to ward off evil spirits) – today Rosemary is used to sharpen the mind, boost energy (it is a great antidote for lethargy, weakness and exhaustion) and reduce fluid retention. It is also widely used as a respiratory and digestive aid, as well as helping with varicose veins and supporting circulation.

Eucalyptus: Like Rosemary, Eucalyptus needs to be used with caution as it is a very powerful and healing tree oil. Traditionally used to help heal wounds (it is a strong antiseptic), it also used as a respiratory aid and a support for muscular aches.

Lemon: Light, fresh and sharp, a lemon has many benefits for us both physically and emotionally – from the detoxifying, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties of lemon oil, to the calming energy the uplifting scent evokes in us, this simple fruit has been historically used as a cure-all treatment for many ailments and is still widely used today, especially for benefitting the digestive system and liver.

The April Blend is available as a Massage Oil (£10 for50ml) and Room Diffuser (£15 for 100ml). To shop online click here and delivery is free within Lymington (or £3.50 for Postage & Packaging within the UK).

*This blend is not suitable for use during pregnancy or if you suffer with epilepsy, high blood pressure, migraines and allergies. If you have a medical condition, please speak to your GP prior to using essential oils at home.*

Zapp It: The Natural & Organic Germ-Fighting Handwash

At a time when handwashing and hygiene are of the utmost importance, our Zapp Handwash is a powerful germ-fighting blend of essential oils, which can be used as a handwash as well as used to wipe down surfaces and floors.

Made from Ti-Tree, Lemongrass and Pine – mixed together these three oils provide a strong defence against germs thanks to their anti-viral, anti-bacterial and antiseptic qualities. And if you should get ill, they also provide medicinal benefits as well, including…

Ti Tree – this totally unique oil is the essential oil for any germ-fighting kit thanks to its antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic AND antibacterial qualities! Renowned for its woody, medicinal aroma, Ti Tree has also been a key ingredient in helping to stimulate the production of white blood corpuscles giving it the capacity to fight many conditions from colds to cystitis.

Lemongrass – with its distinctly earthy aroma, lemongrass is a great strengthener for your immunity and has been used in Indian medicine for centuries to help fight infectious diseases and fevers.  The properties have also proven to sedate the central nervous system, so are great for stress and exhaustion (but must not be used direct on the skin).

Pine – is already a powerful disinfectant and used in many household cleaning products thanks to its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, it is also an excellent antiseptic that helps with bronchial conditions and flu. Strongly refreshing and with a sharp and invigorating smell, Pine also helps fight fatigue and feelings of weakness.

The Zapp Handwash is available in 250ml for £7. Delivery is free within Lymington or Postage & Packaging can be arranged for an extra charge.

After a cold and wet winter, it is time to shift the blues with our uplifting balancing blend

As the daffodils and blossoms start to appear and the rain clouds begin to (hopefully!) clear, March is the month that we start to feel a positive shift in our physical and emotional sense of wellbeing as we get ready to welcome spring and the promise of summer!

To help your body and mind shake off the dark days of February, our Balancing Blend for March is ideal for cleansing and clarifying, as well as calming any stresses and anxieties – especially important during these uncertain days.

Available in a Massage & Bath Oil and Room Diffuser, this blend is suitable for everyone and includes:

Bergamot: sweet, spicy and fruity, this citrus plant helps to create a sense of uplifting calm. It also helps to cleanse the digestive system and clarify the mind, plus boosting the immune system and aiding good respiration.

Geranium: similar to Rose, this popular flower has a distinct aroma and is a vital ingredient for any balancing blend. Used as a tonic for nervous system, Geranium will help calm stresses and anxiety while also regulating PMT and menopausal symptoms. It can also be used to help clear skin concerns (including acne, burns and broken capillaries) and great to use in a cold compress for bruises.

Geraniums help calm stress and anxiety

Petitgrain: sourced from the leaves and twigs of an orange tree, its woody, floral and slightly citrus aroma makes it instantly soothing. Not only does it help to counter anger, panic and other strong emotions, it is great to use in a massage oil working as a muscle relaxant.

The March Blend is available as a Massage & Bath Oil (£10 for50ml) and Room Diffuser (£15 for 100ml). To shop online click here or select this blend at your next Massage House treatment.

february immunity essential oil

How to fight off the flu with our immune boosting blend

Traditionally one of the coldest months of the year, February is the month where most of us will be trying to fight off the coughs, colds and other lurgies.

Our handmade essential oil blend from The Massage House is punch-packed with immune boosting ingredients that will refresh, uplift and restore whilst also kicking those bugs into touch, including:

Lemon – historically known for being a ‘cure-all’ treatment for everything from poisoning to typhoid and scurvy, lemon is used as a sharp, fresh and strong antiseptic. Largely misunderstood as an acid, it is actually an alkaline and therefore a huge benefit to the digestive system and the liver.  Aside from using it in our blend, you can also cleanse your system by drinking a squeeze of lemon juice in hot water to flush and boost your system.

Lemongrass – with its distinctly earthy aroma, lemongrass is a great strengthener for your immunity and has been used in Indian medicine for centuries to help fight infectious diseases and fevers.  The properties have also proven to sedate the central nervous system, so are great for stress and exhaustion. It increases circulation and helps to eliminate lactic acid, which helps to reduce cellulite and acts as a skin and muscle tightener (but must not be used direct on the skin).

Peppermint – is another essential oil with an ancient history as a detoxicant. Famous for cleansing the stomach and clearing nausea and headaches, it is highly beneficial and powerful so best used in moderation. It has fabulous cooling properties for reviving tired feet and legs, and it certainly takes the sting out of sunburn.

Ti Tree – a totally unique oil as it is antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic AND antibacterial! Renown for its woody, medicinal aroma, Ti Tree has been a key ingredient in the Aboriginal people’s first aid kit since the start of human existence, by helping to stimulate the production of white blood corpuscles giving it the capacity to fight many conditions from colds to cystitis.

ginger essential oil

Ginger – is spicy and instantly warming, so a great aid for chills and fevers, plus its cleansing antiseptic and pain relieving benefits help to stimulate your circulation system, clear cholesterol and purify the blood.

The February Blend is available as a Massage Oil (£10 for50ml) and Room Diffuser (£15 for 100ml). To shop online click here or select this blend at your next Massage House treatment.

**This blend is not suitable for use during pregnancy. Not suitable as a bath oil. If you have a medical condition then please speak to your GP prior to using essential oils at home. **

January detox cleansing blend

Time to detox with our January cleansing blend

After a month of fun and celebrations, January is the time when most of us like to give their minds and bodies a break from the festivities and recharge ourselves for the year ahead.

To help aid our recovery, this month’s special blend of fruit and herb essential oils is a top toxin eliminator. Aimed at helping our bodies clear out the festive treats, this special blend can be used whenever we feel our systems have been overloaded with excess.

Ideal to use in January – or I also like to keep it nearby during the rose-fueled summer party months! – this handmade blend includes:

Fennel: is a powerful detoxicant and acts as a tonic and stimulant for the stomach, kidneys, liver and spleen.

Black Pepper: helps to boost circulation and immune systems while also bringing a comforting warmth to combat cold chills and shivers.

Grapefruit: is always refreshing, stimulating and uplifting and essential in the cleansing process.  It also helps shift the January blues by balancing the central nervous system and helping ease stress and low moods.

Juniper: is not only included for its detoxifying benefits, but it is also considered a great aid for meditation, so if your plans for 2020 are to refresh your mind, body and soul… this is the oil for you.

Feel free to use this blend as a massage or bath oil, plus using it in a diffuser at this time of year can be really helpful in clearing heavy chests and soothing stubborn coughs – inhaling essential oils is one of the most effective ways to enter the body with all the beneficial elements transported through the lungs to the blood stream.

The January Blend is available as a Massage Oil (£10 for50ml) , Bath Oil (£10 for 50ml) and Room Diffuser (£15 for 100ml). To shop online click here or select this blend for your next Massage House treatment.

**This blend is not suitable for use during pregnancy. If you have a medical condition then please speak to your GP prior to using essential oils at home. **

NEXT MONTH: GET READY TO FIGHT THE FLU WITH FEBRUARY’S IMMUNE BOOSTING BLEND

Benefits of 100% cold-pressed grapeseed oil

I have chosen Grapeseed oil as the carrier/base oil in The Massage House blends due to its unique and comprehensive health benefits.  It is extracted from seeds of grapes.

The light and non-greasy texture makes Grapeseed an ideal oil for massage therapists as it warms quickly providing a gliding movement and is easily absorbed by the skin.

Here are some of the health benefits associated with Grapessed oil.

  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-oxidant
  • anti-histamine
  • anti-aging
  • anti-allergic
  • anti-microbial

This means that it could be suitable for:

  • age spots
  • dandruff
  • diabetes
  • dermatitis
  • hypertension
  • haemorrhoids
  • PMT
  • macular degeneration
  • sunburn
  • stretch marks
  • oedema
